Recently on the One Percent Club there was a question that we thought was a little "unsatisfactory" so we have produced our own version:
WH I HA O EIGH?
The original version on the One Percent Club was:
WH WO I HA O FO?
In this the second half of each word is missing and, if these are replaced, you get:
WHAT WORD IS HALF OF FOUR?
and the answer is TWO. However this left us feeling short-changed - if all the words in the question are missing their second halves, surely the answer should too. But, of course, TWO has an odd number of letters. Hence our version which expands to:
WHAT IS HALF OF EIGHTEEN?
Half of eighteen is nine and this has an even number of letters, so the answer to this week's puzzle is:
NI
Addendum: another answer was suggested which has given us the idea of another, possibly better, puzzle:
WH WO I HA O EIG?
which becomes
WHAT WORD IS HALF OF EIGHTY?
which gives the answer FORTY and after halving FOR.
