Today is the 25th anniversary of the Premier League, the top division in English football. Because it is the prime focus of football many people forget the other leagues, and that there was football before 1992. There was a complaint on the radio about pundits referring to the Premier League records, and the assumption that these are the all-time records.
That notwithstanding, it does allow the following very good trick question - Manchester United won the first Premier League, but which was the last club to win League 1?
The answer is Sheffield United, in the 2016-17 season. League 1 continues as the third tier of English football. The problem is that people try to answer a different question to the one asked. They think the question is which club were the last winners of the top division before the Premier League.
For the answer to that you'll have to wait a couple of days.
