Quiz Tips - How Often Are Your Quizzes?

This is the first of a series of three Quiz Tips, about Quiz Frequency, Start Times and Team Sizes.

One of our question setters runs a fortnightly quiz in a bar, and was asked if this could be changed to weekly quizzes. As it happened it was not feasible to do this and the quiz nights remain every two weeks.

However, this set us thinking – what is the best frequency for quiz nights?

An obvious advantage of weekly quizzes is that all the quizzers know when the quiz is on – if it’s Wednesday it’s quiz night. This was one of the drivers behind the request to change from fortnightly to weekly quizzes we mentioned above.

But would all of the quizzers come to the quizzes every week? Every quiz team misses quiz nights now and again, and we think that the number of quizzers at each quiz would drop if the quiz nights became weekly. Miss a fortnightly quiz and it’s another two weeks until the next one; miss a weekly quiz and there’s another one next week.

Having a monthly quiz also has the benefit of being easy to remember – First Thursday of the month and it’s Quiz Time. And the quizzes start to feel like an event.

One pub we used to frequent ran the quizzes on all the Sundays before Bank Holiday Mondays. These were definitely an event, and with the day off work to recover.
