Quiz Tips - Team Sizes

Following on from the start time and frequency of quizzes, another thing that crops up often is team sizes. Between us we have been to quiz nights with a maximum size of three (an odd number in both senses of the word), four, six and eight.

Three seems very peculiar – not only are two couples excluded, but also you are almost certainly going to have to split up regular quiz teams. We recommend even numbered team sizes whatever you do.

At the other end teams of eight seems too big. It gives the team a huge advantage over a couple that happen to be in the venue when the quiz starts, and there are many regular quiz teams of four. We recommend a maximum team size of six.

Which leaves you with the options of four and six. Some bars have lots of small tables, so four would be appropriate for them. Six is what we normally go for.

Next time we will discuss what to do if an oversize team turns up.
