Being an inclusive organisation, Quiz Master Shop is quite comfortable with a female Doctor, and all in favour of gender equality.
But back in November 1963 times were different, and the writers of the program couldn't see the future (slightly ironic given the time-traveling nature of the title character!), and could hardly have predicted how social mores would have changed. Hence Doctor Who is a Time Lord, with certain implications of gender.
Whatever your views, it is safe to say that Ms Whittaker is guaranteed a very long life as the answer to a quiz question.
